What is AKC Scent Work?

AKC Scent Work is a sport that allows our dogs to use their wonderful noses!  It lets us become a team with our dog and bond working toward many different titles.

In AKC Scent Work dogs are trained to recognize and alert on specific odors.  These odors are placed in different environments: Container, Interior, Exterior and Buried for the dogs to search out and indicate to us where they are.  Each of four levels become more difficult for the team as they progress.

All dogs have working noses.  All dogs, no matter what size, shape or age can participate in the Scent Work Sport.  So get those dogs off the couch and give it a try!

What is the difference between K9 Nose Work and AKC Scent Work?

Scent Work is an AKC Event, and K9 NoseWork is a National Association of Canine Scent Work event. They both have different difficulty levels of searches for the dogs.  Similar odors and scent vessels are used in the searches, and the trial set ups are a bit different.  Rules differ slightly in each venue, but they share a common purpose of training, understanding and building a working relationship with your dog.
