Dancing Dogs Perform!

The Club’s dancing dogs, led by Judith Perlman joined by Donna Hlavachek and others, have had an active performance calender to the fun and joy of our community’s seniors. They have performed at Gables on the Pond Nursing Home in Random Lake in August; Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls in July; and Pine Haven in Oostburg in June. Shady Lane in Manitowoc requested our dancing dogs in May for a special celebration of National Nursing Home Week. The Bow Wows also performed at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls in May. Scheduled upcoming performances include appearing at a Memory Cafe at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sheboygan and at River Woods Place in Manitowoc in October. If you have a place that would like the dancing dogs, contact Judith. The Bow Wows are constantly updating their program, which includes a wide range of music including Broadway show tunes, country, rock and roll, Frank Sinatra and movie music. Dancing with your dog is really just obedience to music. It is a different and fun way to interact with your dog. We welcome everyone to try one of our drop-in sessions to see if you enjoy it. The Club has also invested in a 3-DVD set of basic instructions for its Library if you would like to borrow those for at-home learning.  Nobody has to perform, although we have found that when you see how much people love seeing you and the dogs, you realize it doesn’t matter how good you are. It’s about showing up!

Community Service Demonstration at Senior Center

Jennifer Tollefson, Mary Larson, and Laurale Stern gave a demonstration at the Senior Center on Tuesday, August 13th. The Senior Center had contacted Burl Cavanaugh a couple of months ago requesting a demonstration. Every Tuesday in August the facility hosts a grandparent-grandchild activity. On behalf of MCKC, Jennifer, Mary, and Laurale presented an hour demonstration of rally obedience, obedience, and AKC scent work with their dogs and took questions afterwards. Thank you, ladies, for your service and for representing MCKC!
